Dave has written over 400 compositions but only around 125 have been published since he re-started writing in 2018/19. This reinforces the point he makes on the writing page, that songwriters need to continually produce work in order to hone their craft. He occasionally goes through older material and uses it as inspiration, or the germ, of a new song - An example of this is "Turnpike road" which was originally an arranged piece he wrote in 2020 but it had no lyrics. On re-visiting the arrangement, the verse was dropped and written in a different style. Lyrics were added and "Turnpike road" emerged as a new song in 2023.  "Never be the same again" and "Not wasting time" are two further examples of material (music) written at an earlier date but 'parked' because there were more pressing things to write or produce.
